Lid Lifts (Blepharoplasty): Common eyelid problems include excess eyelid, droopy eyelids or eyelids that turn inward or outward. These problems can cause eye discomfort, limit vision and affect appearance. Fortunately, they can be corrected with surgery. Eyelid plastic surgery is almost always performed on an outpatient basis using local anesthesia. Photographs and side-vision testing are often required by insurance companies before eyelid surgery can be performed.

As you age, your eyelids stretch, and the muscles supporting them weaken. As a result, excess fat may gather above and below your eyelids, causing sagging eyebrows, drooping upper lids and bags under your eyes. Besides making you look older, severely sagging skin around your eyes can also impair your vision.

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty (BLEF-uh-ro-plas-te), repairs droopy eyelids by removing excess skin, muscle and fat. Blepharoplasty is usually done on an outpatient basis.
